You may be wondering, "What is the World is a French Children Party? Do the Calls walk around in berets, trying to speak in a French accent?!"
No, we don't.
For about 15 years we have been going to Sister Karlyn Brett's House and taking piano. We started with Sarah and yes, every child has "gotten the opportunity" to take lessons (the children do not always look at the lessons as opportunities :(, but such is the life of kids with a over-possessive, demanding, unrelenting mother!)
So, Sister Brett teaches the Suzuki method of learning to play an instrument (basically, you learn to play by listening, instead of learning to play by reading the notes, there is a strong emphasis on form, how you move fingers, etc....OK...enough explanation!!)
So, so, so, in Book I (the first book :), the children learn a song called, "French Children." It's fingering and rhythm are a little tricky and so Sister Brett always throws a "French Children's Party." She serves mandarin oranges on little plates, with little forks from Japan (where the Suzuki method originated) and she has puppets the children use to play out the words of the French Children song (Sister Brett made up the words, making a cute little story) while one of the children plays the song. (Hyrum does not like fruit much, and so we ate, CUCUMBERS!!)
Anyway, we have had many French Children Parties through the years! However, Hyrum's party is the first one that I have taken pictures and a video.
There you have it.....A FRENCH CHILDREN PARTY at Sister Brett's. ENJOY!!!
